NMAT is conducted by GMAC (The Graduate Management Admission Council) as an attempt to shortlist candidates for getting an admit in NMIMS and other good MBA institutes and is one of the most candidate friendly entrance exams. The candidates get the opportunity to take the exam three times within the testing window of 75 days. Moreover, candidates can select the day, time and test centre to take the NMAT exam according to their convenience & subject to availability. If the candidate is not satisfied with his or her performance in the first attempt, then he/she can retake the exam in the test window. However, the candidate has to wait for a period of minimum 15 days after the first attempt in order to retake the exam. From first week of October to third week of December is the usual time period of 75-days testing window of NMAT. It is a completely objective type and computer based test. While registering for NMAT, a candidate can apply to 5 different institutes for free which accept the NMAT score.

The eligibility criteria for NMAT is that the candidate must have completed the graduation of minimum 3 years from any stream. The candidate should have secured atleast 50% marks in his/her graduation. Also, candidates in their final year can take the NMAT. It is advised that before registering for NMAT, candidates should check the individual eligibility criteria of the MBA institute they wish to join. 

NMAT exam has three sections- Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning. GMAC has modified the NMAT Exam Pattern in the year 2020. Previously, the total number of questions used to be 120 and candidates got 120 minutes to solve them. GMAC has reduced the total number of questions to 108 and the time limit is still the same. The section wise changes are-

  1. Language Skills- Time Limit increased from 22 minutes to 26 minutes.

Number of Questions also increased from 32 to 36.

  1. Quantitative Skills- Time Limit decreased from 60 to 52 minutes. 

Number of Questions decreased from 48 to 36.

  1. Logical Reasoning- Time Limit increased from 38 minutes to 40 minutes.

Number of Questions decreased from 40 to 36.

Now, each section has equal number of questions. Each correct answer fetches 3 marks. Also, there is no negative marking for a wrong question in NMAT. Candidates are not allowed to shuffle between the sections. However, they can choose the order or sequence of sections to attempt.
